Where it All Began

Inseparable Duo
From the moment Lisa could walk, Kees and Lisa formed an inseparable duo. We traveled, had fun, collected bags and fantasized about “doing something together.” Lisa traveled the world for studies and work, Kees flew after things – always with too much luggage and not enough good suitcases. But what really counted was our bond: a father supporting his daughter in every dream she has and a daughter dragging her father into each new adventure. There among broken zippers and worn suitcases was the first spark for something bigger…
but Lisa got sick
When Lisa was found to have 3 rare autoimmune diseases, everything changed.Her body failed her more and more often, resulting in muscle loss, disfigurement and chronic hospitalizations. Being in the hospital three days a week also meant saying goodbye to the way things used to be.
New opportunities
Working like everyone else was no longer in the cards.
But it also brought clarity. Freedom of work became a
necessity rather than a luxury. Being able to decide when and how to work became the key to building a life despite limitations. And in that vulnerability came strength – the choice to live for what really matters,with love for the little things.
Being sick makes you realize what matters in life!

they all break
Lisa dragged bags to the hospital, Kees traveled for work – and each time the suitcases broke. Zippers broken, wheels loose, plastic that broke. We were done with it. One day we said, “Why don’t we just make it ourselves?” That simple question became the beginning of Licenty.
Testing, testing, and even more testing…
the solution
In the attic, the first samples piled up. Lisa tested, wrote and did marketing behind her laptop; Kees visited manufacturers and retailers. Together we expressed one ambition: to find the perfect, durable and affordable aluminum case. After testing so many designs, we finally found something that worked and eventually launched Licenty.
